What is the Skilled Worker route visa?

At the end of 2020, the Home Office made changes to the new points-based immigration system. The Skilled Worker route opened for applications and replaced the Tier 2 General work visa route. Whilst there are a number of similarities between Tier 2 General and the Skilled Worker route, changes have been implemented to allow employers to sponsor a wider workforce from outside the UK.

These adjustments make the system much more flexible and encourage migrants to see the United Kingdom as a more appealing destination. The new points-based system includes a route for skilled workers who have a job offer from an approved employer sponsor.

What are the requirements for a Skilled Worker visa?

The requirements are clear, structured, and entirely achievable, and our franchise Partners are fully equipped to guide every single client through them from start to finish.

Your client needs a job offer from a UK employer holding a valid sponsor licence, a licence that gives UK companies the legal authority to hire talented professionals from anywhere in the world, along with a Certificate of Sponsorship confirming the full details of the role they have been offered.

Appropriate skill level requirement

The role must now meet a required skill level of RQF Level 6, equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, ensuring that every Skilled Worker visa placement our franchise Partners deliver is a genuine, skilled, career-defining opportunity that rewards their clients’ talent and builds the foundation of a professional life in the UK worth having.

Minimum salary requirement

Every role must meet the applicable minimum salary threshold, currently £41,700 per year or the going rate for the occupation as determined by the Standard Occupational Classification system, whichever is higher, guaranteeing that every client our franchise Partners place is stepping into a role that genuinely compensates their skills and fuels the future they came to the UK to build.

English language requirement

From 8 January 2026, your client must demonstrate English language proficiency at the enhanced B2 level across reading, writing, speaking, and listening, evidenced through an approved UKVI qualification, a UK GCSE or A-level in English, a degree-level qualification taught in English as confirmed by UK NARIC, or through another approved Secure English Language Test provider such as Pearson, LanguageCert, PSI, or Trinity College London.

How long can your client stay on a Skilled Worker visa?

The Skilled Worker visa can be granted for up to five years at a time, and critically, it can be extended from inside the UK, meaning your clients never have to leave the country they are building their future in simply to renew their right to remain there, making the journey from first arrival to permanent settlement as smooth, uninterrupted, and stress-free as possible.

The points-based system

The Skilled Worker visa operates on a transparent, structured points-based system requiring a total of 70 points, 20 mandatory points for sponsorship by a licensed sponsor, 20 mandatory points for a job at the correct skill level of RQF Level 6 or above, and 10 mandatory points for English language proficiency at B2 level, with the remaining 20 tradeable points scored through salary level, academic qualifications, or Immigration Salary List status, giving our franchise Partners multiple powerful routes to get their clients across the line.

Lower salary thresholds

For certain clients, lower salary thresholds may still apply, keeping the door open for an even wider range of talented individuals our franchise Partners can serve. New entrants to the labour market, applicants under 26, recent graduates, and postdoctoral researchers may qualify with a minimum salary of £33,400, provided it represents at least 70% of the going rate for their

occupation, while roles on the Immigration Salary List also benefit from the £33,400 threshold, making the Skilled Worker route more accessible than ever for the right candidates.

No cap on numbers

The cap on Skilled Worker visa numbers has been completely suspended, meaning there is absolutely no limit on how many of your clients can benefit from this extraordinary pathway, no ceiling on the placements our franchise Partners can deliver, and no arbitrary barrier standing between your clients and the future they deserve.

The opportunity is limitless, the demand is relentless, and our franchise Partners are the people positioned to capitalise on every single bit of it.
